Narrative

The NYC Subway System is home to Professional Musicians. Everyday they play to make a living as strangers become their friends. We all share common values, the need to make a living, express ourselves and provide for our families. Struggling to survive in a sometimes hostile environment, this selection of “Underground” musicians are inspired to share their stories and their best with all who will listen. Coming from varied backgrounds and different countries, they share their unique approach to life and playing music in the NYC’s “Underground” for “tips.” UNDERGROUND NOTES showcases the music of these hard working musicians, and offers their insights and the motivation behind their playing.

The NYC Subway System supports many people. Each person is struggling to survive in a sometimes hostile environment. UNDERGROUND NOTES profiles working musicians, and offers their insights and the motivation behind their playing. Shot entirely on a Steadicam Camera Rig with a small format digital video camera, this is a portrait of some of these brave souls making a living and making a difference in the lives of others underground in the NYC Subway System. Shot over several years, this film has just now been completed.
