Born in the Milky Way

Unholy follows Noa, a young adult with a complex gastrointestinal disorder, as she attends her family's Passover Seder for the first time since being put on a feeding tube. There, she is confronted by pushy family members, malfunctioning medical devices, and a room full of food she cannot eat.
As a triple-organ transplant recipient with a history of Short Bowel Syndrome, Unholy is loosely based on my experience as a former feeding tube user. Growing up, I never saw any representation of people whose stories and bodies looked like mine on screen. I made Unholy because I want to show other disabled people that there is space for them in their families, cultures, and religions, even if their practice looks different than others. This film is an ode to people living with chronic illness and disability in culturally traditional families. I hope this film gives the gift of authentic representation to the next generation that my younger self needed to see.
