Born in the Milky Way
A group of people on their way to a protest are kidnapped and plunged into darkness. We follow them in their journey, not knowing whether they'll see light again.
On June 5th, 2020, hundreds of Mexicans marched towards the prosecutors office in Guadalajara, Jalisco to demand justice for the death of Giovanni Lpez, killed by police officers a month earlier. But before the protest even started, more than a hundred people were illegally detained kidnapped by state elements. The demonstration never happened. After many hours of intimidation and violence, the detainees were taken to remote places far away from the city and finally released: threatened, fearing for their lives, changed forever. This is just an example of the violence and repression that often comes from those who are supposed to protect us. We watched this happen in real time through social media. In the absence of video footage and other records of that day, and fueled by frustration and impotence, we set out to make a film that recreated, as faithfully as possible (and with the help of those who were there), what happened on that day, in the hope that it never happens again.
