When The Lion Wakes Up

"Lion Dance is now a dying art" says fifth-generation Kung Fu master Wan Chi Ming. In New York City's Chinatown, he has led the Lion Dance team since emigrating from China in 1973. The first man to raise the Chinese Communist flag in Lower Manhattan, he remains patriotic despite being far from home. Now, facing his father's impending retirement, the younger Warren Chi Ming struggles to keep Kung Fu heritage alive amongst the community. As they strive to pass on the gifts of their Chinese culture to the next generation, Wan and his son create their own version of the American dream.

Bailin is a creative experimental documentary filmmaker based on New York, whose work has won prestigious some independent film awards in China, such as FIRST International Film Festival . She has worked extensively in photography, video, film, and interactive media. Bailin is currently working on a documentary telling story of Chinese immigration, that uses powerful visual language to elevate shared experiences of community and equality.
